How to

How to use

From choosing your land to checking a layout and taking it into the field.

  1. The left panel of field map mode. Site selection, compass display, background map (none, map or aerial photo), terrain and base point.

    01

    Add a site

Add the land you are planning for and set its shape and basic conditions. You can also open a sample site to try the screens.

  2. The left panel of tree layout mode. Title, row and tree spacing, and the varieties and pollinizers to use.

    02

    Choose the varieties

Pick the varieties to use as producer trees and as pollinizers.

  3. A tree layout. Pollinizers sit at regular intervals between rows of producer trees, with row and tree spacing dimensions.

    03

    Make a tree layout

Set row and tree spacing and the planting pattern. You can also generate a layout automatically.

  4. The pollinizer check. Confirms that every producer tree has at least 2 pollinizer points within reach, with varieties, block, spacing, counts and compatibility.

    04

    Check pollination balance

Look at the pollinizer share, distances and compatibility.

  5. Comparing layout plans. Cards such as Max trees, Work-efficient and True north show tree counts, rows, efficiency and estimated yield.

    05

    Compare plans

Weigh the candidates by counts, workability and direction.

  6. The export choices: a drawing PDF (two pages, year 1 and year 10) and a drawing PNG (the current view, high resolution).

    06

Export and take it to the field

Export the plan as PDF or PNG and use it for planting and checking.

Chaos in the hazel grove. Chased by a big dog, the field crew run in every direction, scattering measuring tape, drawings and helmets

PRACTICAL TIPS

Getting the most out of it

  • Check terrain and orientation first
  • Look at several plans instead of settling on one
  • Look at where pollinizers are, not only their share
  • Compare year 1 with year 10
  • Check the plan on screen against the real site at the end
